Personally a big A-ha fan from years past, their music is just as good today as it was back then. With the release of each album, the traditional old sound that we have grown to know and love and always with a new spin that just keeps us wanting more. Their latest and perhaps greatest album, number nine to be exact has just been released by this incredible Norwegian band and they are sounding better than ever.
The band A-Ha is created of three musical geniuses. Morten Harket, who is the lead vocalist, guitarist Paul Waaktaar-Savoy and of course keyboardist Magne Furuholmen and was originally formed in 1982 when they left Norway to relocate and take the music industry by storm in London . The name, quite honestly as unique as the sound of this band was actually a name that they were going to give to one of their first songs, and it means in several languages the affirmative or a positive connotation. The band agreed on the name being that it was simple, unique and easy to say.
The title of their ninth album is "Foot of the Mountain". This new release has just become available in much of the world, outside of the United States that is! The title track is already running up the charts and much is due to the synth pop sound that made the band famous in the first place. The last single that did this well for the band was "Take on Me", from 1985, given that the band has gone back to a more 80's sound this could be just the album to get them back onto the top 40 scene.
With so many bands making the mistake of trying to reinvent themselves, it is refreshing that they instead took a step back and gave us today's music with a little bit of the past intertwined. This works since today's top 40 listeners are different from those of the 1980's, therefore they made the sound enjoyable for both generations of listeners.
It would be a shame to miss out on this new album by the A-Ha's so if you can, go out and purchase your copy today. All the songs were either written by Paul or Magnets individuals or as a team effort. They combine the old A-Ha sound and a connection to to the sound of their homeland. The album as a whale is a wonderful collection of tracks and deserves all the worldwide attention that it has been receiving.
